Raised Bed Soil Calculator
Calculate the soil volume for one or more rectangular raised beds. Enter the inside bed dimensions, actual fill depth and number of matching beds, then compare bulk soil with bag quantities.

Planning estimate only. Confirm local prices, supplier specifications and site conditions before ordering.
Your estimate
Use inside bed dimensions and the soil depth you actually plan to fill. New mixes can settle after watering, so the adjustable allowance can be useful.

- No purchase is required.
- Availability and matching depend on ZIP code and project details.

The form is submitted to ProjectMetrica first and, when an eligible WiserLeads opportunity is accepted, the required lead data is sent to Triares/homeyou. TrustedForm is used to create a consent certificate for the form session. See the Privacy Policy.
How the raised bed soil calculator works
Total soil volume = length × width × fill depth × number of beds × allowance. The calculator converts the result to cubic feet, cubic yards and bags.
For a better estimate
- Measure the inside dimensions of the bed rather than the outside frame.
- Use the actual soil fill depth; tall beds do not always need to be filled with soil from bottom to top.
- Settling and amendments can change final volume, so a small allowance is useful for new beds.

Frequently asked questions
How much soil do I need for a raised bed?+
Multiply the inside length and width by the planned soil depth. For multiple identical beds, multiply by the number of beds.
Should a raised bed be filled completely with soil?+
Not always. Deep beds may use other appropriate fill strategies below the main root-zone mix. Choose the soil depth you actually intend to purchase.
Should I add extra soil for settling?+
A modest allowance can help on a new bed because loose mixes often settle after watering and planting.
